RUSTOM - Movie Review

Rating: ***

A Naval Commander pleads NOT GUILTY after 3 gun shots on his playboy friend.

At the very begining itself, the director has claimed that the film is a work of fiction, and is a fictional representation of the case of K M Nanavati versus State of Maharashtra which grabbed headlines during the 1960s.

The crispiness and pace of Akshay Kumar’s earlier thrillers (Baby, Special 26, Holiday, etc) are missing in this film. The Editor of the local english paper and the kid who sells the newspapers on the streets overdo their acts.

The film isn’t a murder mystery and lacks the suspense factor which doesn’t exactly keep you hooked to your seats.

Singh is Bliing – movie review

Mindless Comedy - Rating: **
Akshay Kumar’s energy, emotions and performance are the only saving grace of this yet again mindless comedy-action adventure.
Raftaar Singh (Akshay Kumar) is the apple of his mother (Rati Agnihotri) who spoils her son with her love and her home-cooked jalebis. Raftaar spends his time dancing and hanging out with his friends.
He is a free spirited man who finds happiness in other people’s smiles. He is always looking to live his life to the fullest and runs away from responsibility, leaves everything in his life incomplete. Hence his father sends him to Goa to work under his friend who could bring some change in this no-good son.
Raftaar Singh is then sent to receive his new Boss’s friend’s daughter Sara (Amy Jackson) who has come to India to search for her mother. She is beautiful yet tough as a rock as she grew up amidst guns and goons. Her kicks and punches would break bones for sure.
Our Sardarji has fallen in love with this girl, but she cannot understand Hindi, nor does he understand English. So the need to employ and interpreter Emily (Lara Dutta) who has to interpret the boys lovey-dovey messages to Sara and then left with no option of diplomatically translating the foreigner’s cold yet sharp answers.

Entertainment – Hindi movie review

Bollywood hits a low, clings on to man's best friend to fool around!

Rating: **

Junior, the endearing dog is the highlight of this comedy drama, which practically fails to tickle the viewer.

The hair brained of a story is very the name of this simple film with our hero Akhil Lokhande (Akshay Kumar) a jack of all working overtime in many jobs to pay for his father’s hospital bill who he soon realizes is not unwell and is also not his father.

His father is a multi-millionaire Mr. Johri from Thailand (Dalip tahil in an innocuous role). In the meantime Akhil is in love with a serialwalli (Tammannah Bhatia) (wasted) and promises her father (Mithun Charavarti – abhorring) he will become a millionaire and only then take the hand of his daughter.

Thus to lay his claim on his father’s fortune he fast flies to Thailand only to find that the lonely father who has just kicked the bucket has left all that he had i.e. Rupees 3000 Crores in the name of his beloved pet dog “Entertainment” thus begins the cat and mouse game between Akhil and Entertainment with Akhil out to kill the dog and the dog being a step ahead in smartness always outdoing him.

Holiday – Hindi film review

A Soldier Is Never Off Duty

Rating: ***

Holiday begins with a weak introduction where a family is waiting at the station for the hero to return home from his posting at the front. A train load of soldiers arrives and out hops Captain Virat Bakshi (Akshay Kumar), an army man who is back home to Mumbai for his holidays.

The heroine part in the story is out of place, a caricature of a Mumbai Police Sub Inspector has become a norm of the day, all this to project that the hero was larger than life.

Holiday has a hackneyed humour. In fact it comes out intentionally in the climax when the terrorist exulting the mastermind to just finish the game.

Akshay Kumar does his part well. It is difficult to find out flaws in his performance. Sonakshi Sinha isn’t given much to perform. Aackruti Nagpal makes her impressive comeback as Sonakshi Sinha’s sister. Debutant Freddy Daruwala leaves a mark.

The film pays a tribute to Indian Army’s fearless and courageous soldiers who even when not on duty, are dedicated and ever willing to sacrifice their lives for their motherland. And that’s it nothing more.
